Bayonetta: Bloody Fate is kind of mid

Oh boy, where to begin... So I got into Bayonetta a few months back and I absolutely LOVED it and I plan to talk about the series here once I finish Bayo 3. Of course with me obsessing over the series, I found out there was a movie adaption based on the first game called Bayonetta: Bloody Fate. I read the reviews and they were mixed for the most part but one I read absolutely glazed the movie, calling it superior to the game. I knew I just had to check it out so me and my dad (Trying to get him into the series) got together in the living room and streamed that shit on Crunchyroll. By the time the movie ended, I was left so, so disappointed. My dad enjoyed it thankfully but I honestly wished I had just showed him the game cutscenes instead. So why didn't I like the movie? Well, for starters, they changed basically everything. The overall plot is of course still the same but certain areas are either changed or cut from the movie. Pacing is absolutely terrible which is weird because there's roughly only two hours and thirty minutes worth of cutscenes so how the hell did they fuck that up?? Animation is pretty good though I felt like there were way too many shots of still images and characters talking. I get that's just anime and I know the reason why it's done like that but eh, maybe I'm crazy. Fight scenes were fantastic though, easily one of the best highlights for the movie. Music I believe is ripped straight from the game but I could only recognize like one song and NO FLY ME TO THE MOON?? REALLY???? I get it, copyright and all that jazz but come on dude, that song is literally the main theme for the game. Another thing I wanted to point out as well is the fan service. The original Bayonetta had a good amount of fan service but it never bordered on annoying and the game's humor and charm helped with that. In the movie however, it was incredibly over the top and without the same charm as the game, it got real annoying, real quick. Something else I noticed as well, the story was somehow more confusing than the game, which says a lot since the game is VERY confusing but still more understandable. I guess all I can say is, don't watch this movie unless you're a die hard fan like me. Do yourself a favor and buy the game on Switch and play through it, you won't regret it.
